COMPACT PRODUCED-WATER TREATMENT

Compact flotation units for produced water

SAC connects compact flotation units with equipment supply and treatment integration, selecting the vessel and complete package around the available space and the produced-water duty.

Representative vertical compact flotation unit concept. Final vessel design, gas handling and interfaces are application-specific. Illustrative configuration, rather than an exact manufacturer product photograph.

THE OPERATING CHALLENGE

Make the available space work harder.

Production facilities can need an additional deoiling stage while having limited room for new equipment. The installation envelope includes pipework, pumps and service access as well as the vessel.

THE SAC APPROACH

Combine separation functions within a compact arrangement.

Compact flotation units use gas-bubble contact to help remove dispersed oil from produced water. Depending on the selected design, flotation may work alongside cyclonic flow, coalescence or staged separation inside the vessel. Separated oil is collected for recovery, while treated water and gas leave through defined handling routes.

Vertical configurations are an established option for space-constrained duties. The ETS ENVIRO-CELL CFU reference combines a tangential inlet, coalescence and eductor-generated bubbles. Other manufacturer designs use different internal stages and gas-management arrangements. The CFU name identifies a compact treatment approach rather than one universal vessel layout.

A complete package can connect the vessel with motive-water pumps, isolation valves, instrumentation and a local control interface. Define monitoring, alarm and adaptive control requirements around the intended operating envelope. Include upstream feed preparation and downstream treatment in the evaluation. The equipment visuals are concepts, not photographs of a specified manufacturer model.

01

Space-constrained production facilities

Evaluate a compact flotation stage where plot area or deck space limits the options. Review vessel height, lifting access, operating weight and surrounding maintenance clearances together.

02

Skid-based treatment upgrades

Coordinate a CFU with existing skimming, separation and recovered-oil systems. Tie-in locations, gas handling and available utilities help determine whether the proposed package fits the installation.

03

Water routed to its next destination

Set the outlet duty around the required downstream process or disposal route. Filtration or further polishing may remain part of the train when the water-quality requirement calls for it.

Contact SAC
  1. What feed flow range, oil loading, gas content and solids must the unit handle?
  2. What outlet water quality, sampling procedure and acceptance test are required?
  3. What plot area, vessel height, lifting clearance and operating weight can the installation accept?
  4. How will gas, recovered oil, drains and any recirculation flow connect to existing systems?
  5. Which inspection, monitoring, alarm and control requirements define the operating arrangement?
How does a CFU relate to induced gas flotation?

The categories overlap: a compact unit can use induced gas flotation within its separation process. Compare the proposed bubble-generation method, internal flow arrangement and gas handling rather than relying on the abbreviation alone.

Does a compact vessel define the complete footprint?

The equipment layout must include its skid, connected pumps, piping and service clearances. Procurement should compare complete installation envelopes and operating access, alongside the separation duty.

What automation should be specified for a CFU package?

Define the measurements, alarms, operator actions and control interfaces for the application. Adaptive functions require appropriate sensors and operating limits; the supervision arrangement remains a project engineering decision.
